Baxi E128 Fault Code: Frequent Loss of Flame

The E128 fault code on a Baxi boiler is a safety error for frequent loss of flame.

What the E128 fault code means

The E128 code means the boiler has detected the flame going out repeatedly during operation. The boiler's safety system has shut it down because the flame is not staying lit reliably.

Possible causes of the E128 fault

  • Gas supply issue — The gas pressure may be fluctuating.
  • Faulty flame sensing electrode — The electrode that detects the flame may be worn or dirty.
  • Faulty gas valve — The gas valve may not be supplying gas consistently.
  • Blocked flue or condensate — A blockage can affect combustion stability.
  • Air in the gas line — Air bubbles can interrupt the gas supply.

Can you fix it yourself?

  1. Check your gas supply — Make sure other gas appliances are working consistently.

  2. Check for a frozen condensate pipe — In cold weather, check the condensate pipe outside.

  3. Try resetting the boiler — After checking the above, try resetting.

If the E128 code returns, do not keep resetting — the flame is being lost for a reason. Call a Gas Safe registered engineer to diagnose the gas pressure, flame sensing electrode, and gas valve.
